A Chicago teacher receives a huge surprise from strangers on flight and their kind gesture leaves her in awe. Kimber Bermudez was flying to visit her parents in Florida when she had a casual talk with her seatmate, who asked her “What do you do”. Bermudez talked about her students’ struggles and a kind stranger who overheard her conversation donated money to help her students.
Bermudez was talking about her job at Carlos Fuentes Elementary, a charter school in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood, when she was asked ‘What is your greatest struggle? , the teacher explained a bit more about her low income school. She said her students are facing everyday challenges no child should have to deal with and the teachers at her school often use their own money to help students whose families couldn’t afford the expenses.
That’s when a man sitting behind her tapped her and said ‘Hey I’m sorry for listening’, and handed her $500 to support her students! Not only that, as the plane landed, few more strangers also turned around to give more money. The incredible act of kindness from the strangers left Bermudez speechless.
“I started crying on the plane,” Bermudez said. “I told all four men that I would do something amazing for the kids”!
