Soldier Meets The Little Girl Who Helped Him Through Vietnam After Decades

For John Metzler who served in the Vietnam War, the Christmas card that he got from a little girl he didn’t know, meant a lot to him.

He said it helped him get through the war.

The letter which arrived on Christmas Day 1970 simply read:

“Dear Serviceman, I want to give my sincere thanks for going over to war to fight for us. The class hopes you will be able to come home.”

John was a young 23-year-old Army helicopter sniper at the time and didn’t know the girl. But her words were very important to him:

“Fact is I think it means more today than it did when I got it,” John said. It’s because she said thank you.

Decades later, John asked his family members if they could locate her, the letter was signed, DonnaCaye.

Fortunately they were able to find DonnaCaye Ludemann Sica, and this time she was able to- say thank you in person.
