Evangelist Billy Graham who has helped millions of people to receive Jesus Christ as their personal savior is still alive in the hearts of millions with his wise way of winning souls! Music was one of the tools he has used to reach out to the hearts of people with the love of God. Singer and song writer Steven Curtis Chapman has chosen an excellent way to honor his great friend by singing a touching rendition ” Just As I Am”, is just a bit about it!
The impact Graham has had on the world is difficult to put into words. He was remembered for his unique ability to present the message of God’s love to the lost sheep. According to Chapman, Graham found ways to use artists such as Johnny Cash for the advancement of Gospel. “ He was always looking for that opportunity . How can I reach people ultimately to present the message to them”? He commended..
And his use of music in the ministry was observed by Chapman and was highlighted with this great tribute! After the funeral of Graham, on March 2nd, Chapman knew exactly how to honor this “humble man of great God”, when he pulled out his guitar with a perfect song “ Just As I Am” . This was the same song these two man of faith used to sing whenever they were together!
“ I am certain that nothing would honor him more today than for one more wandering, lost, hurting, struggling heart to hear that message and know that Jesus is calling them to come to Himself, just as they are,”!
His facebook post with the song is watched by millions and I am sure many more hearts would have touched by the love of God through his song!
What else can he give to his late friend, who has dedicated his entire life to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ!!
Today my wife Mary Beth & I have the incredible privilege of attending a funeral service for Billy Graham. While there has been much very well deserved “honoring” of the profoundly impactful life this great man had on so many, including myself, here’s what I know Billy Graham would want us to remember. I think he would want us to remember him not so much as a great man of God, but as a humble man of a great God.
Every time I had the honor of standing on a platform with him one thing was always clear. He wanted to point people to Jesus & call them to come to Him…whoever they are, wherever they are…just as they are. This is the message of the Gospel & this was always the message of Billy Graham.
I sang the song “Just As I Am” every time we were together, and I am certain that nothing would honor him more today than for one more wandering, lost, hurting, struggling heart to hear that message and know that Jesus is calling them to come to Himself, just as they are.
Rev. Graham, thank you sir for serving our Lord and His message of love so faithfully & with such integrity.
Until we sing together again, may we who have found hope in receiving God’s love and grace “just as we are” continue to humbly, gently and yet passionately share that hope with others.
By His Grace,
