For us to know what the Antichrist will do or how he will come to be, we must understand what the antichrist means. In a simple word, Antichrist means the opposite of Christ or the one who opposes Christ. From this, we already have the idea of what the Antichrist is and what is expected of him to do. If Christ, Jesus has come to save the people and bring them to eternal life in Him then you should know that for anyone who is the opposite of Him would be to bring people to destruction is any way or to find a way of making people yield to his way and not the true way. Who the Antichrist is as stated in 1 John 2:22 “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.”
In this generation, we cannot be ignorant of the plans of the wicked one, the Antichrist and how he works. We need to have a better understanding of him and who he is. We are in the end time already and the stage is set for all the things that were written about the last days to happen. There are things that Antichrist will do in these last days and we must know about it so we can know how to take our steps and how to follow the ways of Christ alone.
How does he look like, the Antichrist? In the book of Revelation, the description of the Antichrist was given. Revelation 13:1 “Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.” This is just the beast that will come out of the sea, there is another one that will come out of the land. Revelation 13:11 “Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon.”
All these descriptions given to the Antichrist have meaning and we will look at these meanings before we go into the activities of the Antichrist. What water that beast came out from and stands on was explained in Revelation 17:15 “Then he said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.”
What are the things that this Antichrist will do?
1. To destroy the saints.
Revelation 13:7 “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.” Do not be surprised the authority would be given to this beast for the main time and what he will do is to torment the saints, he will go to war against them and he will defeat the saints. These saints are the ones that have escaped the great tribulation – it will be the utmost desire of the beast to destroy them and according to the bible, he will.
2. He will force people to collect a mark.
We must have heard about the mark of the Antichrist which is the famous 666 that we have been seeing and reading about. The Antichrist will force people to collect this mark and anyone who refuses will be hindered from buying. Revelation 13:16 “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or their foreheads.”
3. He will set himself like God.
2 Thessalonians 2:4 “ who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” This is the same thing that happened at the beginning of time when Satan wanted to exalt himself above God and to set his throne above God’s throne. The Antichrist will do the same thing. This will happen because Satan himself will empower the Antichrist to do what he can do. Just like Jesus abides in the father, God (John 14:10), the Antichrist will also abide in Satan and seek power from Him alone. 2 Thessalonians 2:9.
4. He will cause people to worship Him.
Revelation 13:4 “So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who can make war with him?” The next thing after people have seen that the beast has power, he has been given the authority from Satan, they started worshipping it. Not just the beast but also the one who has given the beast power, Satan. After he has been worshipped, he will speak blasphemy against God.
