Comedian John Crist shares a funny video showing 17 ways Christians say no to people.
It’s something many of us have struggled with. Someone asks us for help and we want to say no but feel bad about it.
We love God and want to serve others, but sometimes we just can’t do everything.
So we come up with these spiritual sounding reasons to make us feel better about saying no.
Crist points out the creative ways we have learned to say no while still sounding spiritual.
He says that “when you got saved, you got eternal life, forgiveness of sins and access to a whole long list of ways to say no that’ll make you sound way more spiritual of a person than you actually are.”
He shares phrases we have all heard before. Things like “I’m feeling led in a different direction” and “Let me talk to my pastor about that.”
He also mentions “God has a different assignment for me” and “I just don’t feel like that’s something that Jesus would do.”
Other examples from his video include “It’s just not His timing,” “I’m waiting on the Lord right now,” and “I just don’t feel peace about it right now.”
He even mentions the classic “Let me pray about it” that we have all used at some point.
Crist makes us laugh, but he also makes us think. His best advice is simple: “When it comes to Christian ways to say no, just say no!”
Maybe we can learn something here. God values honest hearts over fancy words. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is give a simple, truthful answer.
