A rescued chimpanzee has an emotional reunion with the man who saved his life.
We know what it feels like to lose someone we care about. We understand the pain of being scared and alone. God puts special people in our lives during these hard times, just like He did for Citron.
A Baby Chimp Loses Everything
Citron’s troubles started when poachers killed his parents in the African forests. They captured the baby chimp to sell him in the illegal wildlife trade.
But God had other plans. Papaye International, a group in Cameroon that saves orphaned chimpanzees, rescued Citron. They brought him to their sanctuary on islands in Douala Edéa Natural Park.
The organization now cares for 34 chimpanzees who live safe lives there.
A Caring Man Steps In to Help
When Citron first came to the sanctuary, his little body was hurt and his heart was broken. A man named Fabrice “Fiston” Moudoungue took care of him.
Fiston is the oldest caregiver at the sanctuary and knows all the chimps from the day they arrive. He fed Citron, loved him, and helped him get better.
Marylin Pons Riffet, who runs Papaye International, says “Citron adores him, his friend who has cared for him, loved him, respected him, and allowed him to find a dignified life and a serene future.”
Now Citron lives on an island with other chimps. They can explore, play, and even start families. But he never forgot the man who saved his life.
Fiston visits the island occasionally to bring food to the chimps. For Citron, these visits mean much more than just getting a meal.
The Sweetest Reunion
A recent video captured one of these special visits. Fiston walks through the river carrying food. When Citron sees him coming, his face lights up with pure joy.
Like a child seeing his dad come home, Citron smiles big and runs straight to Fiston. They hug each other tight. In a tender moment, they look into each other’s eyes and share another warm hug.
At the end, Fiston gives Citron his food. Citron shakes his hand to say thank you and returns to his island.
Baby chimps who lose their parents often don’t survive. Fiston didn’t just change Citron’s life. He saved it. And Citron knows it.
This beautiful video reminds us of our relationship with our Father in heaven. Sometimes we feel scared, alone, and broken.
In those moments, we run to our Father just like Citron ran to Fiston. He comforts us with His warm embrace and reminds us that we are not alone.
