Lindsay Kirkland plays the guitar and sings a simple version of ‘Rock of Ages’ in a new video. She is a mother of seven children and sings with her husband Brackin in their family ministry.

Lindsay has an angelic voice that brings a grounded feel to the music. The couple wants their work to be a “sonic exploration of faith in God.” They hope to inspire people to focus on the Creator and walk in the light of Jesus.

The Reverend Augustus Montague Toplady wrote the lyrics for ‘Rock of Ages’ around 1763. He was a minister in the Church of England who gave his life to Jesus at age sixteen.

Thomas Hastings later composed the famous tune we use today.

A popular story says Toplady found shelter in a gap of a rock during a fierce storm and wrote the words there. While some people doubt the story, a plaque on a rock in England marks the spot today.

The song tells us that we cannot save ourselves through our own hard work or tears. We are helpless without the mercy of God.

The lyrics call Jesus the “double cure” because He saves us from the guilt and the power of sin. We find safety by clinging to the cross and hiding in the grace of Christ.

Lindsay and Brackin want their music to help weary pilgrims on earth. They shared that their desire is “for Christ to be magnified in all that we do, so that when our lives fade away, only His glory remains!”

Lindsay had shared her past struggles with anxiety to encourage others. She believes God gave her a second chance and now she gives every breath to His service.

Let us take comfort today knowing that no matter what trials we face, the Rock of Ages is open to us.

May we all find rest in His presence and let His light guide our journey home.
