A dog in Pittsburgh saved two lives when it led a stranger to find two people who needed emergency help.
Most of us know how loyal dogs can be to their families. They protect us, comfort us, and never give up on us.
But one faithful dog in Pittsburgh did something that left people amazed as it fought to save its dying owners.
A Dog Asks for Help
Gary Thynes was playing with his dog at a park on Tuesday evening. Another dog came up to him and started acting strange. This dog seemed to want Gary’s attention badly.
“He would come just close enough for me to be out of arm’s reach, and then he would bark, turn around, run a few steps, turn around, bark again,” Gary told reporters.
“And it felt like he was trying to get my attention. And I got this overwhelming feeling that he wanted me to follow him.” Gary said.
Gary left his dog with a friend and decided to follow this persistent animal. The dog led him through some woods near railroad tracks. Gary felt something was wrong.
Gary Finds Two Lives in Danger
The dog brought Gary to a tent camp where two people were lying unconscious. Gary tried to wake up the first person he saw, a man. The man would not respond at all. Gary could not even tell if he was breathing.
“At first, I saw just one gentleman. I tried to get his attention to wake him up, but he wouldn’t. He was completely unresponsive. I couldn’t even tell if he was breathing or not,” Gary said.
“And then I turned around and noticed a pair of legs sticking out of a tent, and I tried to shake them, and it was a woman who would not respond to me either.” Gary said.
Emergency Help Arrives
Gary called 911 right away. Police and paramedics arrived within minutes. They took both people to the hospital.
Gary knows about addiction problems. He has been sober from heroin for 16 months. He understood these people needed help fast.
“I know how quickly you need to react to save someone’s life,” he said. “And so, the very first thing that went through my head was: immediately call. Call the police. Get someone out there as fast as they can go.”
Gary Takes Care of the Hero Dog
Gary decided to take care of the hero dog while the two people stay in the hospital.
Animal control wanted to take the dog to a shelter far away. Gary knew the owners might not be able to get their dog back. He told the social worker to let them know he would keep their dog safe.
He found out the dog was very thin and had a bad eye infection. Thynes promised to get the dog medical care and keep it safe.
“He’s amazing, and he definitely saved some lives yesterday. He is a persistent little puppy,” Gary said.
It’s amazing to see how God used this faithful dog to save two precious lives. Sometimes we wonder if God really sees us in our darkest moments. This story reminds us that He does care about us all the time.
We pray for their complete recovery and freedom from addiction. May they find the love of Christ through this second chance at life.
