A group of 43 children from the SBC Kids Choir at Seattle Bethany Church North recently sing a moving rendition of the classic hymn ‘Standing on the Promises of God.’

In the video, the kids are arranged in neat rows. These young singers from Seattle Bethany Church North stand steady and sing with great passion. We do not often expect such seriousness and obedience from young ones. But they know they are singing before the Lord. Their performance brings so much joy and reminds us to lean completely on His promises.
‘Standing on the Promises of God’ was written by Russell Kelso Carter in 1886. Carter was a man of many talents, working as a doctor and a professor, and he wrote this song after he faced a very serious heart condition. He decided to trust God for his healing, and this song was born from that personal walk of faith.
The song tells us that we can find rest by trusting in the words of Jesus. When the “storms of doubt and fear” show up, the song reminds us that we are not alone. It talks about a “liberty where Christ makes free” and how we can use the “Spirit’s sword” to get through each day.
These precious kids remind us to ask ourselves an important question. Where are our feet standing today? Are we leaning on our jobs, our bank accounts, or our own strength? Those things can shift like sand.
The only ground that stays firm is the Word of our Lord. No matter how big our spiritual battles, temptations, or trials may be, God’s promises do not fail. Let us carry this truth always with us and stand tall on His never-changing Word.
