Stephen McWhirter, a man who once struggled with a heavy meth addiction performs a moving rendition of ‘Blessed Assurance.’

God’s Power to Save
We serve a God who really can reach into the deepest pit to pull someone out. A lot of people carry around brokenness or anger that makes it hard to see how good the Father is.
Stephen lived that for years as a crystal meth addict who actually hated the name of Jesus because of the hypocrisy he saw when he was young. But we know nobody is ever too far gone for the precious blood of Christ to save.
When we finally stop fighting and just surrender, God does all the heavy lifting to turn our lives around.
The Story of the Hymn
Fanny Crosby wrote the lyrics to ‘Blessed Assurance’ back in 1873. She was a blind poet. Her friend, Phoebe Knapp, played a melody on the piano and asked what the music said.
Fanny answered right away with those famous words, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!”
A Message of Hope
This song is a loud and joyful way to say we are certain about our salvation. It talks about a “foretaste of glory divine” that every believer gets when they are born of the Spirit and washed in the blood of the Lamb.
The message is simple. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we can live with a holy confidence that kicks out all fear.
Finding Freedom
If you feel stuck in some dark cycle or trauma, just remember that the Lord says, “You won’t do it, I’ll do it.” He is the one who fixes our story and gives us a new song.
We should stand firm knowing we are heirs of salvation and favored by the King of Kings. Please pray for everyone still stuck in the chains of addiction so they can find this same freedom.
