Stray Dog Detects Man’s Seizure at Adoption Event and Finds Her Forever Home

A shelter dog named Sienna detected a man’s seizure at an adoption event before anyone else noticed and made its way to a forever home.

God can use anyone or anything for His purpose, even when it seems insignificant in our eyes.

We may never expect a stray dog to respond in an emergency situation, especially when it’s not trained to do that.

But this story shows how God used a stray dog to help a man in the most unexpected way.

This amazing story happened at a June adoption event in Virginia. Sienna was walking around with volunteer Jackie Poppe when something incredible took place.

The dog suddenly left the group and went straight to 46-year-old Josh Davis, a man she had never met before.

“She spotted this very tall man, and she made a beeline for him,” Poppe said.

Davis remembered what happened next: “She got all excited and she put her paw on my chest and everything. And I was like, ‘Whoa.’ I was like, ‘What’s going on?'”

Sienna would not move from Davis’s side. Even when Poppe pulled on her leash, the dog stayed put.

That’s when Davis’s wife Kristen realized something was wrong. Her husband was having small seizures that only showed in his eyes.

Josh has epilepsy and had forgotten to take his medication that morning.

“It looked like something you’d see in the movies,” Kristen Davis said.

“She kept putting her paw up on his leg, and like, ‘Hey, are you paying attention to me? I’m trying to talk to you.’ We were all kind of standing around, like, ‘Did that just happen?'”

Sienna had never been trained to detect seizures. She came to Friends of Campbell County Animal Control as a stray. But somehow, she knew Josh needed help.

The shelter shared Sienna’s story on Facebook. They wrote: “Sienna wasn’t trained to do this. She simply felt it.”

The story touched many people. Adoption applications poured in for Sienna. But Shannon Sweeney and her family had already applied to adopt her before she became famous. They were chosen to take her home.

This match was perfect. Sweeney’s oldest son has epilepsy too. “She is extremely laid back, and she’s very, very affectionate,”

Sweeney said. “When she leans in, you feel all 60-some pounds on her.”

The experience changed Josh Davis. “It was just kind of a wake-up call, basically,” he said. “Now, I’m more focused on making sure I take my medications, making sure I get enough rest.”

Volunteer Jackie Poppe believes Sienna’s story shows something important. “Don’t overlook the stray dog that’s in your local shelter,” she said. “All of them have amazing traits about them.”

This story reminds us that God cares about every detail of our lives. He can use anyone or anything to help us when we need it most. Sienna found her purpose and her home all at once.

Verse of the Day

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Philippians 2:9-11
