Comedian Tim Hawkins had everyone laughing when he revealed his kids’ nickname for him at home and then hilariously proved they were absolutely right about it.

Honestly, saying no to your kids is one of the hardest parts of being a parent. You love them so much and you want to give them the world. But deep down, we know God didn’t call us to raise children who think the world revolves around them. He gave us the responsibility to shape their hearts, and sometimes that means being the bad guy. Tim Hawkins clearly gets this, and he turned it into comedy gold.
In a clip posted on social media, Hawkins shared the nickname his children gave him. “Yeah, my kids think I’m really cool,” he said. “You know how cool my kids think I am? You know what their nickname is for me at home? Dr. No. Dr. No. You know why? Because I give them a lot of no. A lot of kids get too much yes. I give them no. I call it the gift of no.”
And he didn’t stop there. He went ahead and demonstrated all these creative, over-the-top ways he tells his kids no. Every single one funnier than the last.
The man committed to the bit and it was brilliant. He even encouraged other parents to come up with their own ways of delivering the word no.
I love that he called it “the gift of no” because that’s exactly what it is. We live in a time where so many kids get handed everything and then struggle when real life hits.
Saying no doesn’t make you a bad parent. It makes you a faithful one.
Proverbs 22:6 tells us to train up a child in the way they should go. So next time your kids give you that look when you say no, just smile. You’re doing something right.
