Over 2,500 people walked straight into the Atlantic Ocean at a Jacksonville beach this past weekend and got baptized in what is now the largest single-day baptism in one church’s history.

God Is Doing Something Big
You hear numbers like that and you almost have to read it twice. 2,552 people. In one day. On one beach. That is not normal and honestly it shouldn’t feel normal because what God is doing right now across this country is anything but ordinary.
The Church of Eleven22 has been doing this annual beach baptism at Hanna Park for over a decade now. Pastor Joby Martin started the church back in 2012 and every year this event just keeps getting bigger.
In 2023 they baptized 1,126 people. Then 1,614 in 2024. Then 1,958 in 2025. And now 2,552. More than 14,000 people showed up on the sand just to watch and worship and pray over the ones going into the water.
“One by one, people walked into the water declaring that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior,” the church posted on social media. “The old is gone and new life has come! Because baptism isn’t what saves us, it’s the outward sign of an inward spiritual reality.”
The Shuttle Bus Driver
So here is the part that just wrecks me. The very last person to get baptized that day was one of the shuttle bus drivers. This man was literally hired to drive people to the beach. He came to do a job. And God had other plans.
“Only God could write a story like that,” the church said. And they are absolutely right.
Why Are So Many People Coming to Faith Right Now?
Pastor Joby Martin put it this way. “We’re standing on the shoulders of faithful men and women who have been praying for revival.” He also said something that really stuck with me. He said casual Christianity is fading.
“The people showing up are very serious about Jesus and very serious about just taking the next step of what He has called them to do.”
And we are seeing it everywhere. Beach baptisms in California. Revival events on college campuses. Young people who grew up with no church background walking into the water for the first time. Something is happening and it is the Holy Spirit moving in ways we have been praying for.
“The church is alive and well, the Spirit of God is on the move, and the gospel of Jesus Christ is still changing lives today,” Martin said.
He Meets Us Right Where We Are
What gets me about this whole story is that shuttle bus driver. Because that is exactly how Jesus works. He does not wait for us to have it all figured out. He does not need us to show up with the right clothes or the right words or some big plan. He just meets us right where we are. Even on a random Tuesday shift driving a shuttle.
This Is About Jesus, Not a Church
But here is what we all need to understand. Baptism is not something that is tied to a church. You are not signing up for a membership. You are not joining a denomination or a club.
When you go into that water you are symbolically telling the whole world that you belong to Jesus Christ. That is it. The old life is buried and you come up new.
Paul explained it perfectly. “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” — Romans 6:3-4 (NKJV). That is what baptism is.
You are going down into the water with your old self and coming back up in the power of His resurrection.
Peter said it so clearly on the day of Pentecost. “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” — Acts 2:38 (NKJV).
And Jesus Himself gave us the command directly. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” — Matthew 28:19 (NKJV).
He also said “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” — Mark 16:16 (NKJV).
We see what is happening in this world right now. Wars breaking out. Nations turning against nations. Lawlessness increasing. Hearts growing cold everywhere we look.
The signs are right in front of us and we know His return is near. So please don’t wait. Don’t put it off for another Sunday or another year or a more convenient time. There might not be one.
Repent and be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Today is the day.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
