God gave us family. He gave us parents and children to love and to cherish together. And most of us are blessed to have that. But there are people who wake up every single day with a grieving heart not knowing who their parents are or where their children are. They live on to the hope that one day they will find each other. But we often see how God restores broken things and in this story, He brought a mother and her son back together across decades and across the world.

Kyle Adler is 36 years old and lives in Denver Colorado. He was adopted in 1990 when he was just nine months old and grew up in a suburb of Chicago.

What he didn’t know for most of his life was that his adoption was illegal. His biological mother Ana Maria Navarrete was 19 years old and a single mom living in Coronel Chile when her baby was taken. She had hired a woman to care for him while she worked. One day she came back and her son was gone.

A police investigator later told her the baby was taken as part of a fake adoption network that operated during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

When Adler found out the truth as an adult it wasn’t easy to process. It took years of therapy before he felt ready to keep searching. He eventually connected with Nos Buscamos a nonprofit that works with the genealogy platform MyHeritage.

A DNA test confirmed Navarrete was his biological mother and he flew to Chile in February to meet her.

At the airport in Santiago, when Navarrete spotted her son, she ran straight to him. They embraced in a warm hug. An emotional reunion… 36 years in the making.

She said her “dream has finally come true.”

They visited the beach in Coronel the hospital where he was born and the house he was taken from.

Adler told his mother “I’m not just the son that you lost. I’m the son that you found.”

His adoptive parents Mike and Connie both passed away in 2022. He was clear that they were not to blame. “My parents didn’t steal me. They didn’t name me Kyle out of malice.”

But when you read this story, there are countless people around the world who were trafficked or stolen as children and still don’t know who their parents are or where they came from.

Let us pray for everyone of them and for their grieving parents. Pray that God brings them together, as He united this mother and son.
