A Texas mother who waited thirteen long years through infertility received the surprise of a lifetime just days after adopting two young foster brothers.
When I first read this story, my eyes got teary and I thank the Lord out loud. For many of us, waiting is not our cup of tea. We earnestly ask God for an answer and when it doesn’t come in our expecting time, we get frustrated and begin doubting our faith itself.
But God doesn’t work on our timings. This beautiful story reminds us that His timing is always better than ours. He sees our hearts and answers us in ways we never imagine.
Jeanette Garza and her husband Santiago lived through thirteen painful years of infertility in San Antonio. They longed to be parents so much. Eventually they opened up their home to foster care, caring for two small boys named Santiago and Andres.
On May 8, right before Mother’s Day, they officially adopted the three-year-old and twenty-month-old brothers into their family.
They thought their family was complete, but God had another surprise ready. Just a short time later, Jeanette felt sick and went to Methodist Hospital Westover Hills because she thought she had a hernia.
Imagine her surprise when doctors told her she was actually thirty-six weeks pregnant. Jeanette said, “I kept saying, ‘There’s no way.’ It would be a miracle from God.”
Her blood pressure started rising, so doctors performed an emergency C-section just four days later. They did not even have time to learn the baby’s gender before the birth. When the doctors told Jeanette she had a son, she just cried tears of joy.
Little Diego spent twenty-six days in the neonatal unit before going home to his sweet brothers. Through all the scary parts, the hospital staff held Jeanette’s hand and comforted her.
Looking back at her journey through infertility, foster care, and adoption, Jeanette wants everyone to hold onto faith. She reminds us, “Just pray. Don’t give up. God’s timing is God’s timing. Anything is possible.”
Jesus said in Mark 11:24, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” What did Jesus mean by that statement? Does that mean we will get whatever we ask? It’s more than that. Jesus is teaching here how we should approach God with our prayers.
Prayer is an act of surrender and trust. It means you are submitting your matter entirely to the hands of the Heavenly Father without keeping any grip on its outcome.
You’re completely trusting God that only He alone can provide an answer and His plans are greater than ours. So our prayers should not be a means to ask for our wishes to come true, but to humbly submit ourselves to let His will be done.
We know even people who walked closely with God in the Bible had waiting seasons. And we can see in all those instances God’s purpose was fulfilled.
Abraham and Sarah waited decades for a son and God gave them Isaac at the exact time He had planned, not a day before.
Joseph waited years in slavery and then in prison before God raised him up to save an entire nation from famine.
Hannah wept and prayed for a child for a long time before God gave her Samuel.
Even Zechariah and Elizabeth waited their whole lives before God answered their prayer with John the Baptist. None of them got their answer on their own timeline. They got it on God’s.
So let our waiting season be a season of trusting God’s decision over our matter rather than chasing after what we expect.
