Marriage is an institution ordained by God. When a couple gets married, they’re making a covenant with each other and with God.
Marriage is designed to be joyful and everlasting. But nowadays, we see so many marriages breaking down.
Friends, neighbors, maybe even people in our own families have gone through divorce.
CeCe Winans shares why so many marriages fail and the key to a happy and long-lasting marriage.
CeCe shared her heart in a YouTube video about what really keeps marriages together.
“Put Jesus first, making him the center of our marriage,” she said. “We would have been divorced a long time ago if Jesus was not the center of our marriage.”
CeCe speaks to young couples all the time and sees their struggles. She told one young woman about how marriage changes you.
The gospel singer said she discovered things about herself she never knew.
“When I got married I didn’t realize I was selfish I didn’t realize all the emotional roller coasters I was on it just brings everything out,” CeCe explained.
But here’s the part that hit me the most. CeCe admits that when she prays about marriage problems, God often shows her the real issue. She thought she was bringing her husband’s faults to Jesus. Instead, God pointed the finger back at her.
“I’ll go to Jesus to talk about Alvin and the Lord is like no it’s you it’s you again I’m like no it couldn’t be me again I know I’m right,” she said with a laugh.
That takes real honesty. Most of us want to blame our spouse when things get hard.
We think we’re the reasonable one. We believe our side of the story makes perfect sense. But CeCe learned something powerful. When both people submit to Jesus, everything changes.
“The secret is both of us submitting to him submitting to him and I’m so glad I had a husband who was willing to not just submit to Jesus but also to Authority,” she shared.
When we put Jesus at the center of our marriage, He can heal what seems broken and strengthen what feels weak.
