The 5 Commandments Of Christian Marriage

Being a man of God and studying the Bible for many years, here is a list of 5 commandments for a Christian marriage which I believe every born-again Christian husband and wife should practice in their marriage to make it successful. These are important ingredients needed to make a healthy marriage.

1. Love each other unconditionally

The meaning of the word unconditionally means without conditions. God commands us to love our enemies and so how much more stronger our love for each other in a marriage should be? You have to love your spouse even with the flaws that you can see and not nag after them about petty things.

2. Serve one another like Christ serves the Church

Good marriages are often stories of labor and complete submission to one another. Ephesians 5:21 commands us to submit to one another out of reverence to Christ. Marriage is a full package and not a contract. You are called to serve your spouse every day. You can not be only a receiver, you have to be a giver to become a receiver in the marriage.

3. Respect one another

Everybody craves for respect in this world. A good marriage calls for respect to and by both parties and it should be unconditional. Most spouses tend to respect the one working harder. But respect is important for husband and wife. Don’t respect your spouse only when your given all your needs and all your conditions are met. Respect has to be mutual and unconditional for a successful marriage.

4. All other relationships are below this one

Many marriages are not working out these days because the children or the in-laws are being put first instead of the spouse. Sometimes you need to draw the line between other relationships and your marriage to help keep it intact. To have a great marriage you need to make sure that all interruptions are stopped from interfering in your marriage.

5. Keep your spouse’s desires above yours

It’s easy to take your spouse for granted over the years and not consider their feelings. If your wife wants to go out for dinner with you and you ignore her desire for that NBA game on television, then you are acting very selfishly and are disregarding her feelings. You must keep her interests and desires above your own to make your marriage work out.

There are so many qualities that you can learn from your partner that can make you a much better person in your marriage. Ask yourself in the marriage if you are getting closer to your spouse or moving away from them? Use these 5 commandments to help make your marriage into a godly and better one.
