Singer Colton Dixon and his wife Annie faced every parent’s worst fear when their daughter Ava Dior was born without breathing and no pulse. But they relied on their faith in God and He answered with a miracle.
Perfect Pregnancy Takes Scary Turn
Annie Dixon had what doctors call a perfect pregnancy. She never got sick once during the nine months she carried her twins.
Every doctor visit showed great results. The couple felt ready and excited to meet their daughters, Ava Dior and Athens Elizabeth.
“Annie never got sick, not once. Every checkup was textbook perfect,” Colton remembered about their pregnancy journey.
But when labor started, things changed quickly. After 30 long hours, doctors told Annie she needed an emergency C-section.
Little Ava Dior had moved into the birth canal during the long labor, and her tiny body couldn’t handle the stress.
Baby Born with No Pulse
When Ava Dior was born, she wasn’t breathing. She had no pulse. The medical team rushed to save her life while her parents watched in terror.
“She wasn’t breathing [and] didn’t have a pulse,” Dixon said about that heart-stopping moment. “Not the way you want to meet your daughter for the first time.”
Any parent can imagine how scary this must have been. Your new baby, the child you’ve waited months to meet, lies silent and still. Your heart stops along with theirs.
Choosing Faith Over Fear
Right there in that delivery room, Colton and Annie had to make a choice. They could let fear take over, or they could trust God with their daughter’s life. They chose faith.
“My wife and I both, we started to pray and believe that God is who He says He is, and He’s still a God of miracles,” Dixon shared.
“We just started speaking over little Dior, like from the top of her head and soles of her feet. I mean, we were getting bold with our prayers.”
The couple didn’t care what anyone thought about their prayers. Medical staff worked on their baby while mom and dad prayed out loud for a miracle.
“We probably looked really weird to the doctors and nurses, but, in that moment, we did not care at all,” Dixon said.
God Answers Their Prayers
Their bold prayers got answered right before their eyes. As doctors and nurses worked on baby Ava, something amazing happened. The little girl started breathing. Her heart began beating again.
“And whether it was God reaching down and touching her or working through those … doctors and nurses, we saw little Ava Dior start to breathe and have a pulse,” Dixon explained.
The relief was immediate. Their daughter was alive. Dixon called it a “wild, wild moment” when Ava’s pulse returned.
Happy Ending After Days of Worry
Little Ava stayed in the NICU for several days so doctors could make sure she was completely healthy. During that time, her parents kept praying and trusting God for her full recovery.
“After several days in the NICU, Dior was able to join us at home, happy and healthy. That was a great day,” the proud dad said.
“Life doesn’t always happen the way we want it to, but we believe that life is more about the way we respond to things than what happens to us. We thank God and our amazing doctors and nurses for our two little miracles.”
The Dixon family’s story shows us that God still does miracles today. When we face impossible situations, we can choose to trust Him instead of giving in to fear.
Sometimes our greatest testimonies come from our scariest moments.
