A doctor was in the right place at the right time to save a man’s life after he suffered a heart attack behind the wheel.

God watches over us all the time. Sometimes we experience this firsthand, but most of the time we do not even know how He protects us from harm.
In this story, we see how God intervened in a situation that could have been tragic.
Dr. Idowu noticed an SUV ahead of him driving strangely. Other drivers honked their horns, but the SUV kept going at the same speed in the same direction.
“People were honking, and he wasn’t responding. It was just going same direction, same speed. So I just thought something’s happening with that car,” Dr. Idowu said.
The SUV hit a tree, then a dumpster, and finally crashed into a building on Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell, Georgia.
The driver was John Nimmo. He had suffered a heart attack while driving. Dr. Idowu ran to help. Workers from a nearby business helped him pull Nimmo from the vehicle. They checked for a pulse. There was none.
Dr. Idowu started CPR right away while someone called 911.
“I was not expecting to do that, but like I said, it’s part of our training as medical providers to be prepared to do CPR in case you see someone in need,” he said. When paramedics arrived, they used a defibrillator on Nimmo.
“Eventually, he started breathing on his own, which was reassuring to see,” Idowu said. They rushed Nimmo to the nearest hospital.
Nine days later, the two men met again. Nimmo had been counting down the days. “We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since, nine days. I counted down. We communicated back and forth a few times. But it’s been a countdown, and I couldn’t wait to meet him,” Nimmo said.
The meeting brought tears and smiles. Dr. Idowu used his stethoscope to listen to Nimmo’s heartbeat. Both men could hardly believe what had happened.
“It’s not always that we see the outcome that he experienced in the timeframe that he did. So to not only see it, but to share the same joy with him and his family, as you can tell, it’s overwhelming,” Idowu said.
Nimmo knew his life had been spared. “Every Thanksgiving from here on out, every Christmas, every holiday from here on out will be because of you,” Nimmo told Dr. Idowu.
But the doctor wanted everyone to know where the real credit belonged. “For all the circumstances that played through for me to be there, the staff at Midas to help bring him out, for the police officers that showed up with a defibrillator, for the EMS that was able to get him to the hospital, for the doctors there that took care of him, all of it just played out in his favor,” Idowu said. “And God really is the one who gets the glory for that.”
The two men have become friends. They’ll likely stay that way for many years to come.
This story reminds us that God sees everything. He knows where we are and where we need to be. Dr. Idowu could have taken a different route that morning. He could have been running late or early.
But he was right there when John Nimmo needed him most. That’s not luck. That’s God working in our lives in ways we can see and touch and feel.
