A family dog named Max became a mother to a newborn lamb after its birth mother rejected it.
Most of us know what it feels like to be rejected by someone we love. But even when our father and mother abandon us, God promises to hold us close.
In this adorable story, we can see a glimpse of that kind of love between a dog and a rejected lamb.
Baby Beau came into the world on Olivia Akers’ farm, but his mother wanted nothing to do with him.
Akers tried everything she could think of to help them bond. She rubbed Beau with his mother’s scent and gave them time alone together. Nothing worked.
The mother sheep just got more upset and distant. “She got progressively more violent, telling me she didn’t want to do this. So I listened,” Akers said.
Max, the family dog, watched all of this happen. When she heard Beau crying, something stirred inside her.
Max walked over to the tiny lamb and started licking his face, like she was saying, “Don’t worry, little one. I’m here now.”
From that moment on, Max claimed Beau as her own baby.
They did everything together. Max stayed close while Akers fed Beau his bottle. They took naps together in the warm house.
They ate their meals side by side, with Beau drinking his milk and Max eating her kibble.
They played tag and ran around the yard like best friends.
When Beau grew big enough to live with the other sheep, Akers worried he might forget about Max.
But every time Max visits the pasture, Beau runs straight to her. “It’s very clear they have connection,” Akers said.
