A family of siblings from Alabama sing a beautiful a cappella version of the beloved hymn ‘Down in the River to Pray.’
The hymn ‘Down in the River to Pray’ has touched hearts for generations. George H. Allan included it in a collection called “Slave Songs of the United States” in 1867.
The song speaks of keeping faith during hard times and finding hope through prayer.
The Cotton Pickin Kids come from a large Alabama family with 13 children. Their parents taught each child to play different instruments from an early age. Some learned guitar and banjo, while others picked up the mandolin, fiddle, or harmonica.
The family often performed together at gatherings with friends and neighbors.
In this performance of ‘Down in the River to Pray,’ the siblings create beautiful harmonies without any instruments.
The music video shows them singing beside flowing water that cascades over rocks. The natural setting matches the song’s message about going down to the river for prayer.
