Weddings bring families together in ways nothing else can. For parents, their children’s marriage marks one of the most important days they will ever witness.

When we truly love someone, we want to include the people who matter most to them. That’s exactly what happened when one groom decided to go above and beyond for his future in-laws.

When Zach and Hallie planned their wedding, they knew it would be special. But Zach had a secret plan that would make their day unforgettable.

Hallie’s parents, Gina and Paul, are deaf. They came to their daughter’s wedding expecting to catch up on the ceremony details later. They had no idea what their future son-in-law had been planning for months.

Zach had been going to night classes for four months before the wedding. He wanted to learn American Sign Language so Gina and Paul could understand his vows to their daughter. He kept his plan completely secret from everyone.

When the time came for wedding vows, Zach stood up and began speaking to Hallie. But then he did something that shocked everyone. He started signing his words at the same time he spoke them.

“Hallie, your light shines so bright. It’s what drew me to you when we met,” Zach signed and said out loud. “I’m so in love with you. I promise to encourage, support, and believe in you, even if others don’t.”

Hallie started crying right away. Her parents watched their new son-in-law sign every word of his promises to their daughter. The whole room was full of tears and smiles.

“The moment Zach started signing his vows, I immediately started tearing up,” Hallie said later. “The way he included my parents made it even more meaningful, and it reminded me why I chose him, and I’ll keep choosing him every day.”

After the ceremony ended, Zach found Gina and Paul at the reception. He had one more surprise for them. He pulled out his ASL certificate and handed it to his new in-laws as a gift.

“I actually handed them my certificate of graduation to show them that not only am I committed to Hallie for the long run, but I’m committed to our future family,” Zach explained.

Paul gave Zach a big thumbs up. Gina signed “thank you” over and over. Then they both wrapped their new son in warm hugs.
