5 Things About Heaven Every Christian Should Know

If you have traveled around the world, you must have seen some breathtaking places, but heaven is the glorious dwelling place of God.

Heaven is not a mythical place, but the holy dwelling of the Lord Most High.

We cannot even begin to comprehend its splendor and only those who have received Jesus Christ and whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will spend eternity with Him.

Here is a list of 5 things about heaven that every believer should know:

1. Nothing Sinful Will Enter Heaven

As human beings, it is impossible to stop ourselves from falling into sin without the help of God. Sin has separated mankind from a holy God since the fall of Adam.

But through Jesus Christ believers are forgiven, cleansed and made righteous before God.

In heaven there will be no trace of sin because God is holy and nothing sinful can exist in His presence.

Revelation 21:27 says, “But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”

Heaven will be a place where sin, corruption and evil will never exist again.

2. We Will Serve God

Many people imagine heaven as a place where we simply sit on clouds doing nothing for eternity. But the Bible shows that God’s people will serve Him.

From the very beginning God created man to work and steward His creation.

The Bible says, “Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” (Genesis 2:15)

Work itself was not part of the curse. Meaningful work existed even before sin entered the world.

In eternity believers will continue to serve the Lord in a perfect and joyful way.

The Bible says, “And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.” (Revelation 22:3)

Our service in heaven will not be burdensome or exhausting. It will be joyful and fulfilling as we worship and serve God forever.

3. We will not become angels

Some people believe that when believers die they become angels. The Bible never teaches this.

Angels and human beings are two different creations of God.

When believers die their spirit goes to be with the Lord.

The Bible says, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8)

Believers remain who they are, redeemed children of God.

Scripture also shows that believers have a unique place in God’s eternal plan.

“Do you not know that we shall judge angels?” (1 Corinthians 6:3)

We will not become angels. We will remain redeemed people who belong to Christ and who will live with Him forever.

4. We Will Experience Joy Without Sorrow

God created human beings with the ability to feel joy, love and delight. In heaven these emotions will remain, but they will be free from pain and suffering.

Jesus spoke about the future joy of His followers.

“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.” (Luke 6:21)

Heaven will be filled with rejoicing, worship and perfect peace.

But the greatest comfort is that sorrow will never exist there again.

The Bible promises, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

Every form of suffering we experience in this life will be gone forever.

5. Believers Will Be Reunited With One Another

One of the most comforting promises in Scripture is that believers will one day be reunited with other believers who have died in Christ.

The apostle Paul wrote these words to comfort Christians who were grieving the loss of fellow believers.

“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14)

Paul then explains what will happen when Christ returns.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17)

Notice the words “together with them.” Believers will be gathered together in the presence of the Lord.

Paul also expected to see the believers he ministered to again in the presence of Christ.

“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?” (1 Thessalonians 2:19)

Jesus also spoke about believers gathering together in God’s kingdom.

“Many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 8:11)

These passages show that believers will not only be with the Lord forever, but they will also be together with one another in His presence.

Paul ended this teaching with a powerful encouragement.

“Therefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:18)

What a wonderful promise to know that those who belong to Christ will live with Him and with one another forever.

Verse of the Day

““Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8
