A talented musical duo performs a moving rendition of the classic hymn ‘How Great Thou Art. ‘
I have heard this old hymn hundreds of times. Every time I hear those familiar words my heart just fills up with peace. Watching this sweet husband and wife duo, Ben and Rose, sing together out in the open countryside took me right back to the simple church days of my youth.
This sweet song has a wonderful story behind it. A Swedish preacher named Carl Boberg wrote the original words back in 1885. He was walking home from church when a big summer storm suddenly rolled in.
Lightning flashed and thunder boomed all around him. But as soon as it started, the dark clouds cleared away. The sun came right back out and church bells began to chime over the quiet water.
That sudden change from loud storm to peaceful sunshine moved his heart so deeply that he wrote down a poem about God’s amazing creation.
Years later in the 1930s, an English missionary named Stuart Hine heard the song and translated it into the version we all love today.
This beautiful song reminds us that no matter what our situations look like right now, there is always hope and peace waiting for us on the other side. God is still in control of the storms in our lives, and He is always working things out for our good.
Rose starts the song with her clear, country-style voice. Then when the chorus comes around and Ben joins in with his gentle harmony, the whole song just opens up. Their beautiful vocals, simple music, and the scenic background all point to the greatness of our LORD.
