A Kansas farmer spent months planting a secret message in his wheat field to surprise his wife on their 20th wedding anniversary.

We know how special our wedding anniversaries are. We try our best to make the day special and memorable for our loved one.

Some of us buy expensive jewelry or plan fancy dinners. Others save up for big trips or surprise parties.

But beyond all these pricey gifts, when we do something from the heart using our God-given talent, it can speak louder than anything money can buy.

That’s exactly what Jesse Blasi did for his wife Sarah.

Jesse Blasi farms wheat in Pratt, Kansas. He has worked the land for more than 20 years.

As his 20th wedding anniversary with his wife Sarah got closer, Jesse wanted to do something special.

He remembered how another farmer in his area, Lee Wilson, had planted sunflowers for his wife two years before.

“I thought, ‘That’s a good idea,’ and so I’ve always wanted to do this pattern thing, and I’m like, ‘I could do that for Sarah.’ Twenty years is coming up,'” Jesse said.

Jesse started planning back in October. He used his John Deere air seeder and special farming methods to plant two different types of wheat. He planted white wheat and red wheat in a pattern.

Jesse used more than 65 million red wheat seeds to spell out his message.

Keeping this secret was hard work. Other farmers in the area kept calling Jesse to ask about what he was doing in his field. But Jesse kept quiet about his surprise.

When the wheat grew tall enough to show the message, Jesse took Sarah up in a small airplane.

From the sky, Sarah could see “Jesse + Sarah 20 Years” written across their field. The message covered half a mile wide and stretched one mile long.

Sarah got emotional when she saw what her husband had done. The moment was caught on video. “That’s Jesse Blasi love, that’s farmer love right there,” Sarah said.

Jesse and Sarah met while they were students at Kansas State University. They have two daughters, Reagan who is 14, and Avery who is 12. Jesse calls his girls their “best crop.”

“Even though I’m the farmer, she grows the best crop,” Jesse said about his wife raising their daughters.

Sarah knows her husband has a farmer’s heart. “Farmers are more apt to do acts of service to show their love. Just him doing something like this shows — it’s just extra, it’s just a little bit extra!” she said.

The wheat message will stay in the field until harvest time this fall. Jesse says it looks best when you see it from 4,000 to 6,000 feet up in the air.

Like this Kansas farmer, we all have unique skills gifted by God. Maybe you can knit, craft, paint, or sing.

When we use them with our whole heart for our loved ones, it speaks louder than any store-bought present ever could.
