A video of a little boy’s reaction to his fourth place ribbon at a goat show has touched millions of hearts.
Most of us know that sinking feeling when we don’t come in first place. Our hearts drop a little when someone else’s name gets called for the big prize.
But this little boy shows us that we can still find joy in the little things God gave us and the loved ones He put around us.
Five-year-old Milo Garza stepped up to compete at the Compardres Cabritos goat and lamb show in Kingsville, Texas on June 22. He filled in for his older brother at the last minute.
When they called out the results, Milo heard his name for fourth place. His face lit up like Christmas morning.
The little boy grabbed his yellow ribbon and beamed with pure happiness. Then he did something that made everyone’s heart melt.
He bent down to his black and white goat named Teddy Bear. He wrapped the goat in the biggest hug you ever saw. He kissed Teddy Bear’s forehead over and over again.
“I love goats,” Milo told NBC Nightly News. He explained how his family takes care of their animals. “We feed them, and we work them, and we walk them. We give them water.”
Milo comes from a family of goat ranchers. These animals are not just livestock to him. They are his friends.
His mother Elizabeth watched the whole thing happen. “It was a raw emotion,” she said. “It was something totally, totally unexpected. Milo is a goat lover. He goes outside and he’s constantly kissing the goats, loving on the goats, hugging them and they’re pets to him and he can’t get enough of them.”
Someone caught this sweet moment on video. The Instagram account @laechelinfarms shared it on June 23. The video exploded online. It got more than six million views and over 460,000 likes.
People could not stop talking about it. One person wrote, “I love that he actually cares about and loves his animal. Thanks kid.” Another said, “The goat seems to absolutely love him too.”
When asked about his favorite thing about Teddy Bear, Milo had a simple answer. He loves the goat’s “plump little legs.”
Sometimes we forget to be thankful for the small blessings God gives us.
Look at Milo with his fourth place ribbon. He was happier than most people who win first place. He was grateful for what he had. He found joy in loving his goat and sharing that moment together.
That’s the kind of heart God wants us to have. Be grateful for what you have and rejoice in the Lord.
