A high school student in Pittsburgh found a beautiful way to say thank you to his school by bringing in a taco truck to feed everyone.

Many of us know what it feels like to start over in a new place. New faces. New rules. We quietly hope to meet people who accept us as who we are.
But our God walks before us and he prepares new connections even before we think about it.
Christian Romero is a student at Brashear High School. He moved to Pittsburgh from Toluca, Mexico, with his family two years ago. The journey was long, more than 2,300 miles, and the change was big.
But Christian says his school community made him feel supported. He wanted to thank his teachers, classmates, and school staff for welcoming him and his family. So he decided to do something joyful and familiar.
Christian hired a taco truck to cater lunch for the entire school.
Christian’s family is friends with the owners of Taqueria El Buen Pastor. With their help, the truck came to campus and served more than 700 students.
His stepmother, Teresa Mendez Juarez, explained his thinking in simple words. “He says, ‘everybody likes tacos, there’s nobody that can say no to tacos.’”
She also shared what guides his choices. “All these things he comes up with is because he has a good father behind him.” For Christian, the lunch was about gratitude.
“He says it’s more than anything, that he’s being grateful to the institution and to his teachers and his peers to allow him to be here,” she said.
The students felt that gratitude. His classmates spoke about how meaningful the support was. School administrator Kiley Krizan described Christian as kind, humble, and generous, and said this was one clear example of who he is.
Many students also shared one happy opinion. The tacos were some of the best in Pittsburgh.
Christian says he hopes to do this again. Next time, he wants to feed first responders and police officers. He says he feels thankful for the way they help keep his family and community safe.
This story reminds us that God can use simple actions to bring people together. A thankful heart can feed more than hunger. It can feed hope, connection, and joy.
