Our Bibles carry our faith journey through every season of life. The worn edges show where our fingers turned to favorite verses during hard times.

The underlined passages mark the moments when God spoke directly to our hearts. The handwritten notes in the margins record our prayers, our questions, and the answers God gave us along the way.

But can you imagine losing such a precious Bible?

Matt Williams from Murfreesboro felt sick when he discovered thieves had taken his Bible case from his car. Inside the case, Williams kept treasured family photos that held years of precious memories.

“I went around to look, and it wasn’t there, and I was like, oh no — surely they didn’t take the Bible of all things,” Williams told WTVF-TV.

Williams could have gotten angry or given up hope. Instead, he did what believers do when life hits hard. He prayed.

“I said a quick prayer; Lord, it breaks my heart. I got a lot of stuff in there that means a lot to me, and I’d like to get it back. But not my will but yours, like you always say,” Williams said.

What happened next shows how God works in ways we never expect. The same person who stole Williams’ Bible also stole someone else’s car.

When police found that stolen car, they made an amazing discovery. Williams’ Bible sat on the passenger seat right next to another Bible that belonged to the car owner.

Sherry McClure’s daughter owned the stolen car. McClure posted a photo of the Bible on social media. She asked if anyone knew who it belonged to.

Williams saw the post and recognized his Bible right away. He could tell because of writing inside from a mission trip he took back in 1999.

When the two families met so Williams could get his Bible back, both felt God had brought them together for a reason.

Williams quickly made copies of all his recovered photos. The families even made plans to meet again for ice cream.

Williams understood what had really happened. “God says not even a sparrow falls from the sky that he doesn’t know about and doesn’t notice, so apparently not a Bible gets stolen from a car in a driveway that he doesn’t notice and respond to as well,” he said.
