A young boy in Texas is making a recovery that his family calls a miracle after an accidental shooting on Christmas Day.

There are situations in our lives when we feel completely alone and helpless. But the most beautiful thing about being a child of God is that He is closer than ever during our struggles.
A family knew this when their son nearly died in an accidental gunshot and doctors told them he might not survive.
Fourteen-year-old Ryen Harris-Contreras spent his Christmas night in Groesbeck with his best friend. They were getting ready to go rabbit hunting like they had many times before.
A small-caliber rifle sat nearby and the boys believed it was empty. The weapon discharged by accident and the bullet struck Ryen in the head.
Emergency teams rushed Ryen to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple by helicopter. Surgeons worked quickly to save his life. They had to remove a portion of his skull to help with the brain injury.
Doctors told the family to prepare for the worst because they thought he might not survive.
His family did not give up hope during those long hours in the ICU. They relied on their faith in God. They saw His hand working in a miraculous way.
Ryen is a strong kid who loves playing football and basketball. Soon, the boy who never stops moving began to fight back.

His aunt Shelby told everyone to “Watch our boy work and WALK out of that hospital.”
The recovery moved one small step at a time. Ryen started moving his legs during medical tests. He squeezed a nurse’s fingers and opened his eyes.
Soon doctors were able to remove his breathing tube and his brain pressure monitor.
His mother calls this recovery a miracle. She saw her son beat the odds given to them at the start.
“When doctors said there was no hope, God whispered, ‘Watch what I can do,'” she said. Looking at her son now, she says, “This isn’t just a survival, this is a miracle.”
