Hero 4-Year-Old Runs for Help After Grandma Suffered a Serious Fall

A 4-year-old girl in Beaverton, Oregon is being called a hero after she helped save her grandmother’s life following a serious fall at their apartment.

We talk a lot about heroes and brave people. But I don’t think any of us expect a hero to be four years old. In this story, God used a 4-year-old girl to save a helpless grandma after a fall.

Nova Didn’t Freeze — She Ran For Help

On April 17 little Nova Hallett was home at the Arbor Creek Apartments with her 76-year-old grandmother Charlene and her baby brother. Charlene fell and hit her head bad. She was bleeding and confused and couldn’t really help herself.

So what did Nova do? She didn’t cry in the corner. She didn’t stand there scared. She ran outside and found a neighbor and told them straight up that her grandma had fallen. That neighbor called 911 right away.

And when the officers showed up Nova walked them right to the apartment like she had done it a hundred times. The door was unlocked so they got inside fast and helped Charlene.

Medics rushed her to the hospital where she spent about a week before coming home.

Her Mom Watched It All Happen on a Ring Camera

Nova’s mom Hayley Rose wasn’t home when it happened. She got the Ring alert on her phone and started driving home fast. But as she watched the footage something calmed her down.

“As I was driving, and I could see her communicating with them and just hearing her talk made me calmer,” Rose said.

An officer told Rose when she arrived, “Your daughter did a great thing getting help. Your mom fell and busted her head.”

“What 4-year-old knows how to do that?” Rose said. And honestly that’s the right question.

‘OK, I Saved Grandma!’

Rose told Nova that her grandmother was at the hospital getting the help she needed. Nova’s response was just the sweetest thing. “She said, ‘OK, I saved Grandma!’ and she felt really, really proud.”

Beaverton Police were blown away by how calm this little girl was through the whole thing. “Nova demonstrated an incredible level of bravery and awareness, especially for someone so young,” said Public Information Officer Matt Henderson.

He said Nova’s ability to spot the emergency and guide officers to her grandmother made a real difference. The department plans to nominate her for a community life-saving award.

Two Peas in a Pod

Rose says Nova and Charlene have always been close. “They’re two peas in a pod to be honest. She’s like literally my mom’s right-hand girl,” Rose said. Wherever Charlene goes Nova is right there with her.

And I think that bond is exactly why Nova acted so fast. She loves her grandma. It wasn’t training or some lesson she memorized. It was love and God gave her the courage to act on it.
