We should always help without expecting anything back. That’s just the right thing to do. But if we’re honest there’s something that just fills your heart when the person you helped comes back and says thank you.

This woman went out of her way to rescue not a human but a crow and how she received her thank you is incredible.

Leah Wilson is a Métis woman in Canada and she was walking past a neighbour’s house one day when she noticed crows swarming overhead, diving and circling in a frenzy. Turns out a crow was stuck in the eavestrough and nobody had a ladder tall enough to get to it.

She was distressed. She couldn’t just walk away. So she spotted a fire truck parked down the road and walked straight over.

“I was like, ‘Hey! You look like you want to save a crow today.'”

And they did. The firefighters raised their ladder and got the bird down. Leah then drove it to a wildlife rehabilitation centre herself. And in that car ride something happened. The crow latched onto her finger and held on the whole way.

“That was life changing,” she said.

A few days later the crow was released. Leah was out walking her dog when a crow flew down and dropped a feathered bundle right at her feet.

“I was like, ‘Wow! This crow has given me a thank-you gift.'”

And it kept happening. Sticks. Balls of moss. A small bird’s nest. More than half a dozen gifts from the crows over time.

Now every morning walk she takes the crows come out to meet her. She can even spot the one she saved because he still wears his rehabilitation band on his leg. “He’s the highlight of my day,” she says.

Every life matters. And this story is a simple reminder of that.

Our faith shouldn’t just show up in how we treat people. It should show up in how we treat all of God’s creation. Leah saw a crow in trouble and she didn’t walk past. She acted. And God used that small moment of compassion to bring something beautiful back to her.

Proverbs 12:10: “A righteous man regards the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”

Verse of the Day

“Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.””

Revelation 21: 2-4
