An eleven-year-old boy is being hailed a hero for saving a man from drowning in a Kentucky apartment complex swimming pool.

This whole thing happened around 8 p.m. at a pool in Lexington. A young boy named Avory Woolery was there and he noticed a poor man sitting right at the bottom of the pool.
The man looked like he was having some kind of a medical fit or a seizure under the water. Nobody else around the pool was moving to help the person, they were all just frozen.
So little Avory put on his swimming goggles and jumped right into that deep water to pull him up to the top. Avory talked about it later and said “I was like, somebody’s gotta do something. No one was doing anything, so I put on my goggles. I went underwater. I grabbed him up.”
Another person who was there helped lift the man onto the concrete deck and a friend started giving him CPR until the ambulance arrived. The fire department rushed the man to the hospital in real serious condition.
Avory told reporters later that he just knew he had to do something. He said “There was no way that I was going to let another man die today. He’s a human being. He should be treated as such.”
His father Sean Woolery was just beaming with pride. He said people at the pool came right up to thank him for teaching his boy how to swim.
It is so beautiful to see how the Lord chooses to work because the world looks at an eleven-year-old boy and thinks he is too small or too young to make a difference. But our God has a wonderful habit of picking the ones that others overlook or count out.
We can look right back into the Bible and see how King David’s own family treated him when the prophet Samuel came to visit. His own father and brothers left him out in the field tending the sheep like he did not even matter enough to be invited to the feast.
They just saw a simple shepherd boy but God saw a king. The Lord took that forgotten boy out of the pastures and turned him into a mighty warrior and the ultimate pride of the entire nation of Israel.
God does not look at us the way the world does. Others might see you as overlooked and push you aside. But God knows exactly where to use you and He’ll bring the right opportunities for His glory. All we have to do is say a big ‘Yes’ to His call like this young boy did.
“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV)
