A massive choir of Nigerian singers transforms Matt Redman’s hit worship anthem, 10,000 Reasons, into a breathtaking African medley.
When you watch this video, you can feel the joy in the air right away. Hundreds of men and women stand packed into a studio room in Lagos, Nigeria. They are all part of a huge recording project called Voice of A Thousand.
A gifted Nigerian composer named Ehimanre Asuelinmen, who goes by Emre Matthew, stands right out in front of everyone. He waves his hands and sways his body to keep all those singers on beat, and he leads them with so much energy.
As the music kicks off, individual singers step up to the front microphones. Soloists like Victus Eze, Marrz, Boy V, and Blairsings take turns singing lines with deep feeling.
Every now and then, speakers pause to say gentle words of reflection that pull you in. The big crowd behind them sways side to side, while singing tight harmonies. They take a well known song and mix in traditional African praise tunes, turning the entire room into a giant celebration.
We should know the background of how this whole thing came together too. Back in October 2024, Emre Matthew brought around a thousand singers together from across Nigeria to build a special African arrangement. The recording was released in late December 2024, and it quickly blew up on the internet.
The main track they are singing is 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord). English worship leader Matt Redman wrote this famous song alongside Swedish writer Jonas Myrin, and they released it back in 2011 on an album with the same name. It won two Grammy awards in 2013 and became one of the biggest church songs in the world.
This beautiful song reminds us that we always have a reason to give thanks to God. Sometimes when unexpected things happen or when we are met with heartbreaks, we often ask questions to God without thinking about the other 10,000 reasons we still have to praise Him.
It’s human nature to focus on our troubles, but that is why it’s so important for our Christian life to walk in the Spirit. When we build such a relationship with Jesus, we don’t worry about the challenges we face on this earth, because our focus is on eternal life with Him.
