When an eight-month-old infant suddenly stopped breathing inside a rural post office, a former nurse turned postal worker and a police officer sprang into action to save the baby’s life.

Life brings us trials when we least expect them and moments like this make my old heart tremble. But our Lord always watches over us and puts the right folks in place right when we need them most.
When trouble comes we can rest knowing God works through kind people around us to bring His peace.
Young Kylie Vega walked into the Clifton post office near the New Mexico border with her eight-month-old baby girl Nova just to mail a package. Suddenly little Nova went limp and stopped breathing.
My goodness I can only imagine the terror that mother felt! Thankfully postal clerk Mary Schwarz who worked as a nurse for 13 years saw what was happening. She checked for a pulse and found nothing so she stepped up.
Schwarz said “There was no thinking in that situation. I just jumped into action.” She began CPR and back thrusts.
Clifton Police Lieutenant Shari Aguilar arrived on the scene right away. Knowing Schwarz had nursing experience, Aguilar decided to let her hold the baby and rushed them to the hospital herself rather than wait for an ambulance.
Aguilar drove while Schwarz held Nova doing compressions in the front seat. Schwarz noted “by God’s grace” first responders were right there and halfway to the clinic Nova started breathing again before being taken to Banner Medical Center in Tucson.
This sweet baby was born with a hole in her heart and needed surgery. Kylie was full of praise for everyone who helped. She said “I’m grateful that there’s very kind people like that still in this world.” She added “I don’t know why this happened, but I’m grateful with the way it did, and I can’t thank her enough. I know everyone says their child is special, but I really mean it. She’s special.”
Schwarz urged people to learn CPR saying “If you’re a homeowner and you have a pool or there’s a choking incident with a child or a family member, it’s so important to have some kind of training.”
Long before sweet Nova was even conceived, the Lord knew her story and knew she would need a hand to hold in that tiny post office. Before He formed that precious child in the womb, God placed Mary Schwarz in that nursing career and then led her right behind that counter to orchestrate a miracle.
What a mighty and thoughtful God we serve, who prepares our rescue before we even know we need it!
Do you know the biggest strength of a true believer? They don’t worry about tomorrow or any challenges that come their way, because they know that God holds their future and trust that He has a plan for it that is better than theirs.
We all should live on this faith every day. This will not only help us to overcome stress, depression or anxiety and find perfect peace, but also it will help us to make our relationship with God much stronger.
Please remember little Nova in your prayers for complete healing and strength for her dear mother as they go forward.
