Hungry Bear Walks Into Busy Farmers Market and Helps Himself to Pastries

A hungry bear walked right into the Aspen farmers market and treated himself to a massive sweet breakfast. He skipped all the healthy vegetables and went straight for the bakery stand.

It is honestly a little sad but also completely amazing to watch this unfold. The cinnamon-colored black bear just strolled up to the pastry table on a busy Saturday morning and started eating bread and sweets like any regular customer.

The crazy part to me is how most people walking by didn’t even notice or seem to care at all. They just kept shopping for groceries while this wild animal had an absolute feast! I cannot imagine just standing there while a huge bear chows down on cinnamon rolls right next to me but the local people seemed completely unbothered by the wild visitor.

We are seeing a massive spike in Colorado bear sightings this year because a severe summer drought ruined their natural berry crop in the mountains. Wildlife officials say there have been nearly 11000 reports of bears wandering into towns just this year alone.

These majestic animals are desperately trying to fatten up before the harsh winter hibernation sets in. When a hungry bear needs to eat thousands of calories a day they will go wherever the easiest food is. That is exactly why this Aspen farmers market bear just helped himself to those delicious carbs instead of searching the dry forests.

Some people on the internet wondered why nobody stepped in to shoo the animal away from the baked goods. One person had the most perfect and honest response when they wrote “People saying they shouldn’t let the bear do this like yes this is bad for his health. You know what’s bad for my health? Trying to stop a brown bear from eating.” That made me laugh out loud because it is so incredibly true. You just do not mess with a hungry wild animal when he is enjoying his food.

Aspen police officers eventually arrived at the market and used non-lethal bean bag rounds to safely encourage the bear to leave the area without hurting him. After his huge morning meal of human food the bear actually climbed up a nearby tree and took a long peaceful nap to sleep off his food coma.

We should really pray for a heavy snow this winter so God’s beautiful creatures can find their natural food sources again next year.

“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
