Singer Rewrites ‘Hallelujah’ for Easter, and It Leaves Millions in Tears

Kelly Mooney’s version of ‘Hallelujah’ beautifully tells the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

Kelly, a singer-songwriter, has been performing since the age of 5.

One day, her parish priest asked her to sing Hallelujah for Easter Mass. She was nervous but accepted the challenge.

After listening to the original lyrics many times, she realized they didn’t reflect the Easter story. So she decided to rewrite the lyrics to share the true message of Easter.

Her new version of the song moved millions around the world. Many asked Kelly to record it, but she couldn’t at first due to copyright restrictions.

Kelly then contacted Leonard Cohen’s publishers to request permission to officially record her version of the song. Thankfully, they said yes — and now we have this beautiful Easter rendition of Hallelujah to share each year.

Verse of the Day

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
