Because He Lives hymn story

‘Because He Lives,’ was written and composed by Bill and Gloria Gaither in the late 1960s. They were expecting their third child, and they were facing tough situations at that time with Bill recovering from mononucleosis. Gloria was facing anxiety and mental anguish and the very thought of having another child was taking its toll on her.

God sent His Son
They called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives

While sitting at the fireplace on New Year’s Eve, in agony and fear, with the education system being perpetrated with the God is dead idea, and drug abuse and racial tensions rising. She suddenly was filled with a gentle, calming peace as if the heavenly Father, came to her rescue. It cleared up the panic and filled her with calmness and an assurance that only God can impart and she was assured that everything would be fine if left in God’s hands.

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives

Soon after the baby was born, Bill and Gloria remembered that the Holy Spirit came to their aid and that Christ’s resurrection, had revitalized their thinking. Once again joy filled their lives and dominated the fearful circumstances they once felt.

And then one day
I’ll cross that river
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain
And then as death gives way to vict’ry
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know he lives

Those events helped give birth to one of the greatest Christian songs of our time, ‘Because He Lives,’ inspired from John 14:19: ″… because I live, ye shall live also.” – John 14:19.

This is exactly the same we need during these times of crisis due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The music video and background of the song, with the talented Joey Stamper singing suits it so much and it’s so comforting to know that Christ lives.
