A six-year-old cat named Louis Vuitton has become a local legend and social media star in Surrey, B.C., for crossing the Canada-U.S. border multiple times a day like it is nobody’s business.

Borders separate every country on earth. Many of us have friends and family living just beyond those lines, yet we stay on our side because we all know the consequences of crossing a restricted area without the right documents. But what about a creature with four legs and absolutely no interest in international law?
Louis lives along Zero Avenue, where residential homes sit right on the Canada-U.S. border. No fences, just a little ditch and some warning signs. Border agents patrol in SUVs, helicopters fly overhead, cameras cover every angle. Louis could not care less.
He crosses several times a day, almost every single day, hunting mice and snakes on the American side. And here is the best part. He brings them back across the border and drops them on people’s doorsteps. No declaration form. No customs check. Nothing.
“I bet he did not declare them,” his owner Deb Tate laughed. You really cannot argue with that. She also said he “kind of flaunts his recklessness” and honestly that is the most accurate description of this cat possible.
Neighbors love him for it. “He’s a cool little cat and keeps coming back and forth and says hello to everybody,” said local resident Bob Christy. One passerby had the best explanation anyone could offer: “I think it’s because he’s got four legs, not two.”
Louis, officially named Louis Vuitton after the designer brand, turns six on July 1, which happens to be Canada Day. He comes home when he feels like it, or when someone shakes a bag of cat treats.
Thousands of people loved Louis’ story online and the comments were just gold. One person wrote, “He’s got a pawsport.” Another called him a “CAT — Canadian-American Trespasser.”
It is amazing to see how a cat living in a small corner of Canada brought so much joy to countless people around the world.
