A precious hairless cat with no eyes from Maine is gaining a lot of social media attention lately.
The owner Kelli and her cat, Jasper who poses in cute shirts has, more than 77,000 followers on Instagram. “I got him 11 years ago in December, he was a Christmas gift.”
“Some friends of mine always knew I wanted a hairless cat and got him as a rescue for cheap. At the time, we thought he was healthy,” Kelli said. “Jasper would occasionally get a flare-up due to “the feline herpe virus” but he was fine.
In 2013, he got his first corneal ulcer, “I rushed him to the emergency vet.” She says, “He was in pain, and we decided it was time to get him out of pain and remove an eye,” Kelli. 5 years later again it happened and ended up losing the other eye too.
Kelli says Jasper has adapted to life quite well even after losing both eyes. As soon as they got home from the vet’s he was climbing on her and on her shoulder, and all over the place.
In 2019 he had a stroke and was difficult to recover from. Now Jasper is happy and free to wander in a pen when Kelli isn’t home.
“I made sure I was keeping in touch with my vets, and asked them if they were at a point where a quality of life discussion can happen?’
“As strange as it sounds, he has a good quality of life, he’s a happy cat,” Kelli. Jasper continues to do great while living with his family and with all his health issues.
