Comedian Michael Jr. recently shared a simple but powerful question that he believes can completely change how people think about their purpose in life.

We spend so much of our lives chasing the next promotion, the next raise, the next big thing. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to do well. But somewhere along the way, it’s easy to forget why we’re actually here.
God didn’t put us on this earth just to collect paychecks. He put us here to love people, and that gets lost in the noise more than we’d like to admit.
Michael Jr. made a point that really hits home. From the time we’re little, everyone asks us what we want to be when we grow up. But ask a kid why they want that job, and it almost always comes back to money. That’s just the world we live in.
He offered a better question instead. “Ask the question, ‘Who do I want to serve?’ And I’m not saying in some spiritual way, but it just fits that way as well. But when you ask the question, ‘Who do I want to serve?’ It changes everything.”
Then he told this story about a mechanic he talked to. The mechanic said he does not fix cars but serves and helps people get to their destination. That floored me.
A guy turning wrenches in a garage, and he sees his job as helping people reach where they need to go. That’s the kind of thinking that changes a life. “So, if you focus on the people, it’ll, it’ll put your alarm clock out of business,” Michael Jr. added.
Maybe today is a good day to ask ourselves that question. Not what do we want from life, but who has God put around us that we can serve? When we start there, everything else falls into place.
Purpose stops being something we search for and becomes something we wake up and walk right into.
