God created all animals with the ability to love and form friendships. We see this truth in the sweet bond between Russell the crow and little Otto.

Their story reminds us that God’s creatures can surprise us with their capacity for affection and loyalty.

The Rescue That Started It All

The story started when Loerke’s boyfriend found Russell while working outside. The young crow was very thin and weak.

The family tried to find a wildlife center to help, but none were nearby. So they decided to take Russell home and care for him themselves.

Once Russell got healthy and could fly again, something wonderful happened. He chose to stay near their house.

He visits the family every day. Loerke said, “before Russell I didn’t know that crows could be affectionate.”

The Special Bond with Otto

Russell formed a special friendship with Otto. Every day, he waits on the roof for Otto to come home from kindergarten.

“When I pick up Otto from kindergarten he will sit on our roof and make sure that Otto is home,” Loerke explained.

After Otto arrives, Russell sits outside the window because he wants Otto to come outside and play.

Best Friends Forever

The two friends spend hours together. They go on tricycle rides and watch TV side by side. When the family opens the window, Russell comes inside and sits on the couch with Otto.

“When Otto is outside he will never leave Otto’s side,” Loerke shared.

Part of the Family

Russell has become part of the family. “Russell is a big part of our family now,” said Loerke. She also noted that “living with Russell means there is never a dull moment in our life.”

The crow lets them connect with nature in ways most people never get to experience.

Of course, Loerke always watches when Russell and Otto play together. Russell is still a wild bird, and safety comes first. But their friendship is real and beautiful.

This sweet story shows us how God works through all His creation. When we show kindness to animals, amazing things can happen.

Russell and Otto prove that friendship has no boundaries when love leads the way. Their bond brings joy and wonder to everyone who sees it.

Verse of the Day

“Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.””
