Dog Patiently Waits Outside Every Day Just to See the Mail Carrier She Loves

A service dog waits patiently in her front yard every single day just to see the mail carrier she loves.

How much do we humans wait for someone we love? Maybe we wait for an hour or two. But what if we have to do the same every day? That needs so much patience and dedication, right? But dogs have such a loving heart that is more selfless and kind than most of us.

Russell has a dog named Emmy who works as a licensed service dog. When Emmy is working, she looks completely serious. She doesn’t smile or wag her tail. But when mail carrier Christy comes around, Emmy becomes a totally different dog.

For two years now, Emmy has waited in the grass for Christy to arrive. She will sit there for over an hour if she has to. Emmy knows the sound of the mail truck engine. When she hears it, she runs to the front door and Russell lets her out.

“As the mail truck gets closer and closer to our house, Emmy’s tail gets faster and faster,” Russell says. When Christy pulls up, Emmy runs to the truck.

“She’ll stand inside the truck wagging her tail and her hips and Christy will always talk to her in a high-pitched voice saying hi to Emmy.”

Russell and Christy don’t plan these visits. Russell doesn’t even have Christy’s phone number. Christy comes sometimes at 3:00, sometimes at 6:00. Emmy just waits for her friend.

Christy loves Emmy so much that she tells Russell her work schedule. Russell is her only customer who knows when she has a day off. That way Emmy knows not to wait.

On days when Christy works but can’t stop, she leaves a treat in the mailbox for Emmy to find later.

“People love seeing Emmy because she represents just this pure joy and love,” Russell says.
