Comedian Jonnie W. made a song parody about farming that has people cracking up all over the internet.
Jonnie W. knows farming pretty well. He understands that farmers face a big problem – they never really know what’s wrong when crops fail.
“The thing about farming is, like, you don’t really know, really, what’s working,” he explains. “You have a bad season. Your farm can’t tell you what it needs, and because your farm can’t talk to you.”
So Jonnie came up with a clever idea. What if farms could actually talk to farmers? What would they say? He decided to make it into a song.
His parody uses the tune from OneRepublic’s ‘Apologize’. In Jonnie’s version, the farm complains to the farmer:
“You water every day, and you never forget to plow. You tell me that you’ll feed me, still my leaves are turning brown with decay. Oh, I’m feeling kind of edgy, you killed all the veggies now. It’s a shame, and it’s too late to fertilize.”
The song is short but really funny. Jonnie sings it like the farm is frustrated with the farmer, even though the farmer works hard every day.
Many of us can relate to this song. We’ve all been in situations where we’re trying our best, but we don’t know what’s going wrong. We water the plants, we plow the field, we do everything right, but the crops still die.
Farmers deal with this frustration all the time. They can’t just ask their land what it needs. They have to guess and hope for the best. Sometimes they get it right. Sometimes they don’t.
