A bride who lost her firefighter father on 9/11 got the most beautiful wedding surprise when his old fire company showed up to honor him on her big day.
Kristin Marino was just 3½ years old when her dad Kenneth Marino died on September 11, 2001. Kenneth worked as a firefighter at FDNY Rescue Company 1 for more than ten years.
Kenneth earned three citations for going above and beyond his duties. On that terrible day, he died responding to the North Tower.
“It’s hard to tell if I remember him from the stories or if I remember him from just memory,” Kristin said. “I was a daddy’s girl and my mom always says I was his prize – he just loved me so much.”
On her wedding day to musician Noah Schnacky, something amazing happened. Nine firefighters from Rescue Company 1 arrived in full uniform with two fire trucks. They came to stand in for Kenneth and honor his memory.
The emotional surprise left Kristin in tears. “I would stop crying, and then I would look at them, and I would bawl my eyes out again.”
