A high school football player chose service over celebration after his team won a big game.

Hudson Clavelle plays running back for Teurlings Catholic High School in Louisiana. His team had just beaten their rival, St. Thomas More. Most players headed straight to the locker room to celebrate. Hudson went a different direction.
He spotted Mr. Brian in the stands. Everyone calls him Mr. B. The custodian was working alone with a small 5-gallon bucket, picking up trash from the bleachers. Hudson walked over in his full football uniform and started helping.
“I just wanted to give him a hand,” Hudson said.
The scene caught people’s attention. Here was a player who had just helped win a heated rivalry game. He could have been celebrating with his teammates. Instead, he was cleaning up garbage.
“Nah, it was just him, like I said, and there was a bunch of stuff in our bleachers, and I figured if I gave him a hand, he could be done sooner,” Hudson explained.
His coach, Michael Courville, had high praise for the young man. “It’s just incredible; nothing that we did. It’s just the way Hudson was raised. No one told him to do that. It was a decision to do the right thing and to help somebody out. We couldn’t be more proud of him and our program, and of him being a member of our school,” Coach Courville said.
Nobody made Hudson help. It wasn’t a punishment. He wasn’t in trouble or late for practice. He saw someone working alone and decided to help. That simple.
“Just to give them a hand, that’s what I like to do. It wasn’t much. Just picking up a little trash,” Hudson said.

This is what kindness looks like. Not grand gestures or big announcements. Just one person seeing another person and choosing to help.
Hudson could have celebrated with his team. He earned that. But he chose something better. He chose to serve someone who works hard but rarely gets noticed.
We can all do this. We can see the people around us who work quietly. We can stop and help even when we’re tired. Even when nobody’s watching. That’s when our faith shows up most.
