This performance reminds us why certain songs never grow old. They point us directly to the magnitude of God.

We see the stars and the vastness of space and realize how small we really are. We look at the marvelous creations of God in nature like the mountains and the rolling thunder. All of it reminds us of the handiwork of God. And there is no other song better than this classic hymn to praise Him for his marvelous works and his amazing grace on us.

The history of this hymn is just as powerful as the song itself. It was originally written as a poem by Carl Boberg in Sweden back in 1885. He was inspired after being caught in a sudden, majestic thunderstorm that gave way to a calm afternoon.

It took many years and several translations to become the version we know today. An English missionary named Stuart Hine heard it in Ukraine and added the verses about the Gospel and Christ’s return around 1949.

The message of this song is all about taking a step back to look at the big picture. It starts by looking at nature. It talks about the universe and the stars and how they show God’s power. Then it gets very personal.

It moves to the cross where Jesus died to take away our sins. It ends with a beautiful hope for the future. It talks about the day Christ comes back to take us home.

This simple but beautiful version touches our hearts and reminds us that God is greater than anything we face. Let us glorify Him for His mercy and love for us.

Verse of the Day

“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”

Philippians 2:14-16
