A video of an elderly woman with dementia touched thousands of viewers after she forgot nearly everything — except who Jesus is.

Dementia strips away everything. The names, the faces, the places, the small daily details that make up a life.
Watching someone you love go through it is one of the hardest things in the world. One day they know you. The next day they don’t. And yet, even in the middle of all that loss, something can remain.
This grandma shows us that dementia may weaken the body and the mind, but for those living in Christ, the soul is still very much alive.
As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:16, “Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.”
In the video, someone asks her a series of simple questions. Her address? She doesn’t know. The color of her shirt from the day before? Gone. When asked about lunch, she laughs and says, “Food! Good food!” Her joy is still there, even when the details are not.
Then come the names. Linda? She shakes her head. Paul? “I don’t know Paul either.” It’s a quiet kind of heartbreak.
Years of relationships, faces, and moments — all out of reach. Dementia has a way of emptying a person’s past like a room stripped of furniture.
But then the question changes.
“Who is Jesus?”
Her face lights up. No pause. No searching. “Well, Jesus is the one who saved me,” she says with a steady voice. “And lives in my heart. And will take me home.”
The person behind the camera says it best: “Quite amazing.”
And it truly is. Every other answer required her to dig into her memory. This one came straight from her heart.
Dementia can steal names, faces, and years of lived experience. But it cannot touch what God has written on a person’s soul. Her love for Jesus was not stored in her mind like a file that could get lost. It was part of her very being.
We may not know what lies ahead for any of us. But this woman’s moment reminds us to build our lives on something that nothing in this world — not time, not illness, not age — can ever take away. JESUS!
