The hymn was written by Thomas Chisholm with music composed by William M. Runyan in Baldwin City, Kansas, U.S. It was published in 1923.

Thomas Chisholm had written the hymn as a poem during his time of illness, when he found comfort and strength only in reading the word of God. During his sickness he stumbled upon the passage from Lamentations 3:22-23. Which became his favourite and inspired him to write the poem.

Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
there is no shadow of turning with thee.
Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.

Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed thy hand hath provided.
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
join with all nature in manifold witness
to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

God is so faithful and the lyrics by Thomas Chisholm truly declares the greatness of it.

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22‭-‬23 (NKJV)
