A friendship between a high school football player and his childhood friend is touching hearts everywhere.
We often see many adults break years of friendship over little things. It might be something that could be solved in seconds, but pride keeps them from talking or forgiving each other.
At the same time, there are friendships that value each other and stay strong through good and bad times. This story is about such a beautiful friendship that God wants us to have.
Wesly Lowery and Nevaeh Hall have been friends since first grade. They grew up together, played together, and built a friendship that means the world to both of them.
Nevaeh has Down syndrome, and Wesly has always been right there beside her.
This year brought Nevaeh’s first homecoming. Wesly plays wide receiver on the football team, and he knew he wanted to make this night special for his friend.
After one of his games, he grabbed a sign and walked over to where Nevaeh stood with her cheerleading squad.
The moment he asked her, Nevaeh couldn’t contain her joy. She ran straight into his arms. Someone caught it all on video, and now millions of people have watched this beautiful friendship unfold.
Wesly explained their bond simply. “We are really close. She says that I’m her boyfriend. Because we got so close, I just really want to keep the friendship.” He added, “Well, this would be the first time that a homecoming function and I wanted to give her a night to remember.”
Nevaeh’s father, Steven, got emotional talking about it. “I thought it was a very nice young man to do that. Puts a tear in my eye. Daughter’s happiness means a lot to me.”
People across social media started sharing the videos. One person wrote, “His parents raised a great guy. Hope they stay friends for a very long time. What a great friendship they both have. Bless them both.”
When reporter asked Wesly what he’s learned from knowing Nevaeh all these years, he said, “That she’s a very loving and caring person.”
This is what real friendship looks like. It’s not complicated. It’s just one person choosing to make another person feel valued and loved. That’s exactly what God asks us to do for each other.
