Sanford Fillmore Bennett wrote the words to this precious hymn back in 1868 and Joseph Philbrick Webster composed the music. Mr. Bennett was feeling quite down one day in his apothecary shop when his musician friend walked in and asked what was wrong.
Bennett simply replied that it would all be better in the sweet by and by. His friend picked up his violin and they wrote the whole song in less than thirty minutes right there.
This sweet hymn reminds us that no matter what heartaches we go through in this life God has prepared a wonderful home for us in heaven. We get to look forward to that glorious day when all our sorrow ends and we gather with our Lord on that beautiful shore.
